Water Tower
Beigang Water Purification Plant No. 1, better known as "Water Channel Head" to the local natives, was founded in the 4th year of Showa (1929) and has served the local natives for more than eight decades.
The water plant covers an area of 1.28
hectares. The water tower stands more
than 20 meters high to store water up to 440 metric tons to serve up to 9,640
households. The construction of that
water plant cost 240,000 Japanese yen.
The construction work started from March 23, 1929 and was completed on May 30,
1930. The Beigang Waterwork was built by the Su Hsien-Li, the local community
head that time and funded by Chaotian Temple, known as the "Waterway"
in Japanese. That Waterwork boasted its most advanced and sophisticated design
at that time. It led the water from the Beigang Stream and carried out such
processes including precipitation, filtration and
disinfection before pumping the quality water into a water tower and, in turn,
serving each and every household user, well known as "Waterway
Water."
